Sebastian and the Deep Blue

What is Sebastian and the Deep Blue

Sebastian and the Deep Blue formed over time into what it is today through a process of trial and error. It started as just Barry Sebastian + Band, that band was inspired Sufjan Stevens early orchestras and various jug bands. Composed of violin, cello, flute, clarinet, trombone, upright bass, guitar, drums (precision) and vocals. Taking that ensemble to Seattle clubs proved to be out of control. Just micing most of those instruments is to difficult for most club settings. After a few gigs and meeting a few new great friends I decided to retool the music and start using horns in place of the clarinet and flute. The band downsized for a bit for a while just having trombone, guitar, bass and drums. Then I met my good friend Doug who played then sax, from there I got him involved and later met Amelia who took over the existing cello parts on the baritone saxophone. Since then there have been a few lineup changes but we now have the solid nine piece band that is Sebastian and the Deep Blue.
